Exclusive: Trump targets birth tourism and citizenship in new executive orders

politics

President Trump is planning to sign executive orders Thursday that restrict birthright citizenship through a narrower focus—birth tourism and children born to foreign diplomatic staff. Axios reports this is his second attempt after the Supreme Court rejected a broader order on June 30th that would have denied automatic citizenship to all children born of noncitizens. The new orders would target mothers who deceptively enter the U.S. for commercial birth tourism, plus diplomatic staff, people designated as alien enemies, and those born in U.S. territories if Congress acts. The administration argues that existing Supreme Court exceptions provide legal authority for these changes, though court challenges are widely anticipated.
