Trump targets birth tourism and citizenship in new executive orders

politics

Axios reports that President Trump plans to sign executive orders on Thursday seeking to narrow birthright citizenship in specific circumstances. It's his second attempt—the Supreme Court rejected a broader version in June—and this time he's targeting four categories: children born to foreign diplomats, those classified as alien enemies, births in U.S. territories if Congress acts, and children born through commercial birth tourism, where expectant mothers travel to the U.S. specifically to give birth for citizenship purposes. A companion order directs the State Department and Department of Homeland Security to crack down on the birth tourism industry. Legal challenges are expected, given courts' earlier rejection of similar attempts.
