America’s largest newspaper chain, USA Today Co., partners with Palantir to analyze audience data as search traffic falls
business
USA Today Co., which operates more than two hundred local newspapers and the national USA Today, announced a partnership with Palantir—an artificial intelligence and data analytics company. Nieman Lab reports the deal aims to convert anonymous user interactions into tracked, first-party relationships for more effective monetization. The announcement comes as USA Today Co. grapples with declining search traffic; the chain reported one hundred fifty-eight million unique visitors in the second quarter, down from one hundred eighty million the previous quarter. CEO Mike Reed told investors the partnership would help them generate actionable intelligence from user data to drive faster revenue growth. The deal is notable given Palantir's history of providing technology to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the Department of Defense.
