The US Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency is now monitoring nearly fifty-four thousand immigrants through GPS-enabled ankle monitors, according to The Guardian. The Geo Group, a private prison corporation, owns the company running this program and disclosed the expansion during an earnings call Thursday. The figure represents a tripling from early last year, when seventeen thousand immigrants were being tracked with the devices.
