ACLU blasts Trump’s new orders on birthright citizenship, saying they are doomed to fail in court– as it happened

President Trump has signed new orders targeting birthright citizenship, and the American Civil Liberties Union is challenging them in court, The Guardian reports. The ACLU argues the orders are doomed to fail legally. Republicans on a Senate committee voted to hold retired public health official Anthony Fauci in contempt of Congress, following a hearing where Fauci invoked his Fifth Amendment rights against self-incrimination. The full Senate would need sixty votes to advance the measure, but Republicans hold only fifty-three seats.
