Weather tracker: central and western Europe brace for more sweltering heat

Another pulse of extreme heat is set to sweep central and western Europe. According to The Guardian, forecasts show the high thirties Celsius widely across France, Spain, and Italy in the early part of the week, with Germany, Poland, and Czechia experiencing the highest temperatures toward the week's end, as a high-pressure system shifts eastward. The region's heat has been unrelenting all summer. Austria shattered its all-time temperature record on August fourth with forty-one degrees Celsius in Stammersdorf, near Vienna—exceeding the previous record from twenty-oh-three by zero point seven degrees. That record lasted less than a day: the very next day, Austria recorded forty-one point two degrees Celsius. Slovakia then set its own all-time record of forty-one point four degrees Celsius on the same day. This sustained extreme heat has pushed the freezing level across the Alpine region above four thousand meters—well above many glaciers—accelerating seasonal melting and leaving no part of central or western Europe unscathed.
