Post Office and Telecommunications Center in Skopje, North Macedonia

other

Behind Skopje's grand classical facades lies a hidden brutalist masterpiece, Atlas Obscura reports: the Post and Telecommunications Building. Designed by Macedonian architect Janko Konstantinov—who studied in Copenhagen and worked with Finnish design master Alvar Aalto—the complex emerged from the city's post-earthquake rebuilding. Its soaring concrete forms evoke both medieval Balkan churches and futuristic sculpture: the lotus-shaped Post Office symbolizes the city's rebirth, while cylindrical towers and circular windows crown the Telecommunications wing. Though a fire in twenty thirteen damaged the building's glass dome and interior murals, the city plans to transform the complex into a cultural center.
