Block, shmock — Just Pump Water Over The Chip

Hackaday reported on an unconventional water cooling experiment by a maker named TrashBench, who epoxied three-D printed pipe fittings directly onto bare GPU and CPU chips, bypassing traditional water blocks. The GPU cooled remarkably better than commercial cooling systems, but the CPU approach failed entirely. The experiment leaked and nearly damaged the hardware, but it revealed an important asymmetry in how the two chips responded to direct water cooling.
