US offers $1bn to Colombia on new right-wing president's first day of office

Abelardo de la Espriella took office as Colombia's president today, pledging in his inaugural address an all-out war against what he calls narco-terrorism. BBC World reports the United States is offering one billion dollars in support. The announcement comes as the new administration takes a security-focused approach to the country's longstanding challenges with drug trafficking organizations.
