‘Super El Niño’ could bring wet winter and flooding to western US, climate scientists warn

An exceptionally strong El Niño is expected to develop this fall and winter, bringing wet conditions and flooding risk to much of the western and southeastern United States. Per the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, this 'super' El Niño, defined by sea surface temperatures climbing at least two degrees Celsius above average, is predicted to be the most intense of the century. Climate models show the weather system will persist into early spring of twenty twenty-seven, leaving coastal areas particularly vulnerable to flooding.
