Centrelink pursuing debts that are more than 40 years old despite agreeing to waive old arrears

The Guardian reports that Centrelink is pursuing four point nine three billion dollars in unpaid debts, with the oldest dating back more than forty years—despite the government's agreement to implement a six-year statute of limitations on debt recovery. Peak legal body Economic Justice Australia is calling for the debts to be wiped, and Australia's leading welfare expert has warned that verifying whether such a vast amount is even accurate is now impossible.
