A twenty-seven-year-old nursing graduate in Somalia has been sentenced to three years in prison for criticizing the government on social media. Sadia Moalim Ali was originally charged with insulting state institutions and inciting violence, but convicted only on the first charge. According to The Guardian, the sentence—handed down yesterday—has triggered immediate outrage from former presidents, former prime ministers, and human rights advocates, who've condemned it as fundamentally unjust.
