Poonch medical college closure threatens academic year of 500 students

In Pakistan-administered Kashmir's Poonch district, the local medical college in Rawalakot has suspended classes for two months after a nearby sit-in led organizers to set up checkpoints and disrupt roads leading to the campus, according to Dawn. The district's deputy commissioner says roughly five hundred students could lose the entire academic year if the college doesn't reopen by August tenth, since exams tied to the University of Health Sciences calendar are due later this month. He's appealing to civil society and local leaders to help restore security, warning the closure could also derail registration for a planned nursing college at the site. Dawn reports the region's other two public medical colleges have already resumed classes.
