Canada deported 3,234 Indian citizens in first six months of 2026

Canada deported three thousand three hundred twenty-three Indian citizens in the first half of twenty twenty-six, according to Scroll.in's report on border services data. It's the highest number of deportations from any single country in at least five years, with Indians surpassing Mexico—which had held the top spot for years—at one thousand five hundred seventy-three. The increase reflects a steepening trend: in twenty twenty-three, fewer than twelve hundred Indians were removed; by twenty twenty-four, that had jumped to two thousand. Canada attributes removals to non-compliance with immigration rules, rejected asylum and refugee claims, visa overstays, and visa fraud, though the border services agency doesn't break down reasons by country. Seven thousand six hundred sixty-nine Indians are currently awaiting deportation.
