Imposter scams led fraud reports to the FTC for fifth straight year in 2025, causing $3.5 billion in losses

According to the Federal Trade Commission, imposter scams led all fraud complaints for the fifth consecutive year in twenty twenty-five. Victims lost three point five billion dollars to these scams, which accounted for a significant share of the fifteen point nine billion dollars in total fraud losses the FTC reported. The data underscores the enduring vulnerability of consumers to scammers posing as trusted institutions and officials.
