How USS Colorado kept fighting after Japan hit it 22 times off Tinian during World War II

During the invasion of Tinian on July twenty-fourth, nineteen forty-four, the USS Colorado endured a devastating attack. Times of India reports the battleship was struck twenty-two times by Japanese shore guns, killing forty-three crew members and wounding one hundred ninety-eight others. Yet despite the damage, the Colorado's guns kept firing in support of the landings. Tinian was captured and later became a major U.S. bomber base in the Pacific.
