Ecuador charges ex-minister over presidential candidate assassination case

Ecuador has charged a former government minister over the assassination of presidential candidate Fernando Villavicencio, BBC World reports. Prosecutors say six others, including the leader of the Los Lobos cartel, played an indirect role in the killing. Villavicencio was a prominent anti-corruption candidate whose 2023 murder shocked the country ahead of that year's election.
