Blanche confirmed as attorney general

The US Senate confirmed Todd Blanche as attorney general on Saturday, according to Semafor, granting Donald Trump a loyal ally to lead the Justice Department. Blanche, Trump's former personal attorney, has been acting in the role since April, though senators raised concerns about potential conflicts of interest given his close ties to Trump. But the weekend also showed limits to Trump's agenda: while the Senate approved a stopgap spending bill to avert a government shutdown, it recessed without advancing his proof-of-citizenship voter bill, his top legislative priority.
