High court judge to investigate Mir Raza murder case, says home minister

A judicial inquiry is now underway in Karachi into the murder of young businessman Mir Raza Ali, after a fresh autopsy overturned the original finding of suicide. Dawn reports that Ali, an IBA graduate who owned the eatery Wafflix, went missing in late July and was found dead near Shahi Qila Ground in Gulistan-i-Jauhar, with the new post-mortem showing he had been shot in the back and bore signs of torture. The push for a Sindh High Court judge-led probe came hours after senior Pakistan Peoples Party leader Faryal Talpur called for a transparent commission into the case. Police leadership has also overhauled the investigation, dismissing the original team, naming a new five-member unit led by DIG Amir Farooqi, and suspending a DSP and a station house officer accused of failing to preserve the crime scene. Separately, as Dawn notes, Sindh minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has asked cyber crime investigators to pursue what he calls a false and malicious social media campaign linking him and his son to the case.
