Hackaday reports that NASA's Curiosity rover has spotted a vast field of hexagonal features on Mars in Valle Grande. These patterns could result from dried mud or from freeze-thaw cycles like those that create similar features in Arctic soil on Earth. NASA is cautious about the cause, but determining what formed them could reveal clues about Mars's climate in the geologically recent past.
