Singapore replaced a 2.7-km concrete canal with a winding river; biodiversity rose 30%

Times of India reports that Singapore transformed a concrete drainage channel at Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park into a meandering river, replacing its two point seven kilometer length with three kilometers of winding habitat. Between twenty oh nine and twenty eleven, the project created a flood plain and more diverse aquatic ecosystem. Researchers subsequently found twenty six fish species in the rehabilitated section, including three native species, compared with eight non-native species in an untreated canal area.
