There’s a Better Version of Myself in These Woods

Electric Literature has published a new short story by Rebecca Turkewitz called "Darkness Like a Seam." It follows a fearful ten-year-old girl sent to stay with her stoic grandparents in the New Hampshire woods while her mother struggles with a mental health crisis. Isolated and consumed by dread, the girl slips outside one evening and hides just past the door, setting off a frantic search when she turns up missing. According to Electric Literature, the piece closes mid-search, with her grandparents calling her name into the trees, the outcome left unresolved.
