Russia’s Supreme Court removes nation’s only antiwar party from upcoming parliamentary race

politics

Russia's Supreme Court has removed the Yabloko party from the upcoming State Duma—the lower house of parliament—elections. According to Meduza, the decision came after lawyers for the Rodina party filed a lawsuit claiming Yabloko's campaign materials violated copyright and contained extremist slogans. The court also cited data showing the party had received foreign funding—though Yabloko attributes this to legally-required divestment of foreign shares before elections. Yabloko is the only party originally on the ballot calling for a swift end to Russia's war with Ukraine, and the party says it will appeal.
