Congressional Democrats launch probe of efforts to deport US military members and their families

Congressional Democrats have launched an investigation into the Trump administration's deportation of military service members' families. According to Mississippi Today, more than fifty active-duty troops' spouses and parents have been detained by immigration authorities. In a letter to the Departments of Homeland Security and Defense, more than sixty lawmakers—led by Senator Elizabeth Warren—argue the deportations imperil military readiness and weaken morale. The Trump administration says military service doesn't automatically grant immigration status, but the lawmakers are urging the restoration of protections that had previously shielded military families.
