Community College Instructors Bring Astronomy Textbook Into 21st Century

Five community college instructors have redesigned how introductory astronomy gets taught. Working with NASA Science Activation, they've adapted the first five chapters of the widely used OpenStax Astronomy 101 textbook, enhancing them with interactive learning modules featuring NASA's educational visualizations and materials. NASA Science reports the updated chapters were presented in July and will be tested in community college classrooms starting in the fall. The project serves as a proof of concept that traditional textbooks can be effectively transformed into active learning tools.
