Every morning, Matt Horn wakes up to something he's never seen before. A thermal receipt printer generates a unique piece of character art, designed moments before by Claude—an AI model—and themed to the day's weather, season, or headlines, with a short verse underneath. Per Adafruit, Horn built the project as a deliberate counter to his phone habit: instead of scrolling morning feeds, he gets one physical printout, eighty millimeters wide, and that's the broadcast. The system runs on a Raspberry Pi Zero W connected via Google Apps Script and ngrok, piping bytes to the printer's USB port. When the cutter drops, the edition is out—no refresh button, no infinite scroll, just yesterday's print pinned to the corkboard.
