world

A powerful earthquake has killed at least one hundred thirty-two people in Colombia, with the death toll expected to climb. Scroll.in reports the magnitude seven point four quake struck near San José del Palmar in Chocó province early Monday morning, injuring four hundred eighty-three people and damaging some one thousand five hundred buildings across Cali, Pereira, Quibdo, and Manizales. It's the strongest earthquake recorded in Colombia this century, and tremors were felt as far as Ecuador and Panama. Newly sworn-in President Abelardo de la Espriella has declared a state of emergency, with hospitals on red alert and a curfew in place in Cali as rescue crews search for survivors trapped in the rubble.
