In 1868, an eclipse in India revealed an element found on Earth 27 years later

During India's solar eclipse of eighteen sixty-eight, astronomers spotted an enigmatic yellow line in the sun's spectrum—the first hint of an undiscovered element. Pierre Jules Janssen made the observation, and Norman Lockyer named what he saw helium. As Times of India notes, it wasn't until eighteen ninety-five that William Ramsay finally confirmed helium's existence on Earth by extracting it from a mineral, validating what observers had glimpsed in the solar spectrum twenty-seven years earlier.
