Kennett was a thriving copper-mining town in northern California until the Shasta Dam was built as a federal water management project. Times of India reports the dam flooded the community, which had prospered through copper mining and rail operations. Today, Kennett lies beneath Shasta Lake, remembered only through historical accounts of the settlement that once flourished there.
