Two TISS professors get police notice for sending ‘suspicious’ messages to arrested ex-student

Two professors at the Tata Institute of Social Sciences have received police notices for sending messages to a former student. The student, Abhirup Paul, was arrested for shouting slogans supporting two detained activists: Umar Khalid and Sharjeel Imam. According to Scroll.in, both have been jailed for over five years under India's Unlawful Activities Prevention Act for their alleged roles in the twenty twenty Delhi riots. Paul was also charged with possessing material authorities say reflects Maoist ideology. Notably, seven other students arrested for participating in an October memorial event for former professor GN Saibaba—who faced similar accusations—received anticipatory bail. Saibaba was acquitted in twenty twenty-four after more than seven years in jail.
