The Pakistan the world keeps missing

Pakistan has voluntarily joined over one hundred fifty international treaties spanning labour, environment, trade, and human rights — commitments made decades before such standards became central to global commerce. The country has ratified thirty-eight International Labour Organization conventions, including eight of the ten Fundamental Conventions covering forced labour, child labour, freedom of association, and equal pay. That distinguishes it from rivals: China, Vietnam, and Cambodia haven't ratified the two thousand fourteen Forced Labour Protocol that Pakistan has, and neither has India. Most recently, per Dawn, Pakistan prohibited imports of goods produced using forced labour — moving faster than India or Bangladesh. These aren't merely symbolic: they expand market access, attract investment, and signal regulatory credibility to global buyers. Despite resource constraints and geopolitical pressures, Pakistan has quietly built an underappreciated compliance record.
