Reading daily ocean temperatures from red algae

Researchers at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz and the Max Planck Institute for Chemistry have developed a new method to reconstruct daily seawater temperatures from red algae. Per Phys.org, the technique addresses a critical need in climate science: obtaining detailed historical temperature records to understand how ocean ecosystems respond to warming. The approach enables scientists to study past ocean temperatures at a daily resolution over a four-month period.
