3 judges with diverse legal backgrounds join Islamabad High Court

Pakistan's Islamabad High Court welcomed three new judges on Tuesday, as Chief Justice Sardar Mohammad Sarfraz Dogar administered their oaths, bringing the court to ten judges while three seats remain vacant. The three appointees bring diverse legal expertise. Justice Ayyaz Shaukat specializes in tax, banking, and commercial law, and previously served as Islamabad's advocate general. Earlier this year, he became chairman of Pakistan's Social Media Protection and Regulatory Authority. Justice Umair Majeed Malik brings expertise in legislative drafting and petroleum law, having worked with the National Accountability Bureau and advised the oil and gas sector on regulatory frameworks. Justice Shahrukh Arjumand, from Upper Dir in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, makes history as the first judge from that district to reach the high court—he entered the judiciary as a civil judge two decades ago. Per Dawn, the three remaining seats are expected to be filled through transfers arranged by Pakistan's Judicial Commission.
