The Guardian reports that Australia's government is introducing legislation requiring tech companies to pay for journalism. Firms must enter into at least eight media deals to fully offset their obligation, though they can partially comply with fewer agreements. The bill includes a two-hundred-percent offset for small and medium media outlets, designed to encourage partnerships with regional publishers, culturally and linguistically diverse media, LGBTQI outlets, and other independent players. The government secured Coalition support for the bill following last-minute revisions.
