David McBride leaves prison on parole after being jailed for leaking Afghanistan war documents

The Guardian reports that David McBride, a former army lawyer, has been released from prison on parole in Canberra. McBride was sentenced in May twenty twenty-four to a maximum of five years and eight months for stealing and leaking secret defence documents related to the Afghanistan war. After serving his full non-parole period of twenty-seven months, the Attorney General has granted his parole.
