France: Drowning deaths climb amid record-breaking heatwave

France is reeling from its most severe heatwave on record. At least four children have died from drowning, and in Paris, an adult man was found unresponsive in the Canal Saint-Martin after swimming outside the designated safety zone. Hospitals nationwide are struggling with the surge of heat-related admissions. Climate scientist Jean-Pascal van Ypersele, former vice-chair of the IPCC, warns that without dramatic reductions in global carbon emissions, future heatwaves will intensify even further.
