According to The Guardian, investigators in northern California have uncovered one hundred seventeen dead dogs at Miranda's Rescue, a sanctuary near Fortuna that marketed itself as a 'no-kill' facility. Many of the remains showed evidence of gunshot wounds. Police also discovered more than six hundred dog collars on the property. The organization accepted hundreds of dogs annually from shelters across the San Francisco Bay Area and received hundreds of thousands of dollars in funding — raising urgent questions about what happened to the animals in its care.
