At the Annecy International Animation Film Festival on Saturday, 'The Violinist' won the festival's top feature film prize, the Cristal. The film tells the story of two young violin virtuosos in and after World War Two Singapore. It beat out strong contenders that premiered at Cannes, including 'In Waves,' 'Viva Carmen,' and 'Iron Boy.' While 'Iron Boy' didn't take the festival's top prize, it swept three awards of its own. Animator Don Hertzfeldt earned recognition for best short film. According to Variety, the wins highlight animation's continued prestige on the international film festival circuit.
