President Trump endorsed a new defense pact among Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey, calling it a big, bold, important first step. Signed on August seventh, the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement commits the three countries to treat an attack on any one of them as an attack on all. Dawn reports that Pakistan's foreign minister says the agreement is defensive in nature and open to other regional countries. Turkish officials expect Egypt to join next, and several nations including Kuwait, Bahrain, and Somalia have already welcomed the pact.
