BGP Role model: tracking the adoption of RFC 9234
tech
Internet route leaks happen when traffic takes a path it was never meant to—and it causes slowdowns and wasted capacity. Cloudflare reports that a new standard called RFC 9234 fixes this by letting networks declare their relationships to each other and mark routes so they won't propagate where they shouldn't. Cloudflare tracked how widely this standard is being adopted and found that two large networks are stripping out that protective marking, breaking the system. They're now working to get those networks on board.
