NASA Updates Next Steps for Commercial Swift Boost Mission

science

NASA and Katalyst Space have announced that the LINK spacecraft will not be able to boost the Neil Gehrels Swift Observatory to a higher altitude as originally planned. Per NASA News, an ongoing attitude control issue with the commercial spacecraft has made the orbital boost impossible. The LINK spacecraft will still attempt to rendezvous with the observatory to test key satellite servicing capabilities. Without this intervention, NASA expects the twenty-one year old observatory to re-enter Earth's atmosphere later this year.
