Heatwave and high humidity to blast much of US: ‘impactful to anyone’

world

According to The Guardian, a long and dangerous heatwave is forecast to hit much of central and eastern United States over the coming week, with temperatures climbing ahead of the Fourth of July holiday. The National Weather Service says parts of the Southwest—including Phoenix and central Texas—are already experiencing temperatures around one hundred degrees Fahrenheit, or thirty-eight degrees Celsius. What makes this particularly dangerous: high humidity is also moving in, which will make the heat feel even more oppressive. The heatwave isn't the only concern. Severe wildfire conditions are developing across much of the western United States as new fires continue to spark in the region. Forecasters warn the combination of extreme heat, low moisture, and active fire conditions poses a significant threat through the holiday period.
