Trashed solar panels will be a treasure worth up to $1 trillion
science
Discarded solar panels could provide nearly one trillion dollars in economic benefits if recycled properly, per Anthropocene Magazine. A study published in Nature suggests that between two hundred ninety-seven and four hundred two million tonnes of panels will be waste by twenty sixty, posing a risk of leaching toxic metals into the environment. While current commercial technology struggles to recover valuable materials like silver and silicon at a low cost, researchers say a combination of regional strategies and international cooperation could reduce greenhouse gas emissions by over three billion metric tons.
