Why self-fund your regranting?

LessWrong reports that Manifund, a platform for AI safety grantmaking, is now letting donors join as self-funded regrantors — meaning they can make their own funding decisions while Manifund handles the logistics. The platform takes care of fiscal sponsorship, grant agreements, and payouts, and it also supports investments, loans, and purchase agreements for for-profit entities. Regrants are public, and political donations and some lobbying are off the table. Manifund says the program is aimed at donors with at least fifty thousand dollars to give in twenty twenty-six, and it's especially interested in those with networks that are currently undercovered.
