Aftermath of an Intervention, Part III

other

In the third part of her essay series for Electric Literature, Nelly Reifler describes returning to New York City after the September eleventh attacks, overwhelmed by the smell and her own trauma. She recounts feeling guilt over a friend's death, struggling with dizziness and vomiting, and later becoming reckless—driving drunk, smoking again, and losing weight. Reifler also reflects on her inability to remember her wedding ceremony and her obsessive need to tell people she cared about them. The essay, part of the 'Blue Spark' series, ends with her still questioning whether she is truly alive.
