Dynamics of the Icelandic ice sheet altered North Atlantic seawater chemistry, environmental physicists reveal

science

The growth and retreat of the Icelandic ice sheet have significantly altered the seawater chemistry of the North Atlantic over the last two hundred thirty thousand years. As Phys.org tells it, these changes were driven by the interaction between ice and volcanism in Iceland. Researchers at the Institute of Environmental Physics at Heidelberg University reached these conclusions by analyzing sediment cores from the Rockall Plateau in the northeastern Atlantic.
