TB 26-04 Updates and Modernization of NASA’s Chemical Equilibrium with Applications (CEA) Code
science
NASA has modernized its Chemical Equilibrium with Applications code, a foundational tool used to analyze rocket performance and propulsion systems. As NASA News reports, the updated version, known as CEA version three, replaces a legacy system from two thousand two with a more flexible architecture that integrates with modern languages like Python and MATLAB. While individual calculations are slightly slower, the new system can process massive data sweeps up to eight hundred times faster than the previous version. The update also expands the database to support sustainable aviation fuels and green propellants.
