Supreme court rebuffs Trump’s appeal in E Jean Carroll case as latest decisions released – US politics live

The Supreme Court declined to review Donald Trump's appeal in his defamation case with E. Jean Carroll, letting stand a five million dollar jury award from two thousand twenty-three. The ruling, announced as the court released its final decisions this morning, means Trump's legal challenge fails. In another decision, the court upheld a law allowing mail-in ballots to be counted if they arrive after election day. According to the Guardian, both rulings come as the court prepares major decisions on birthright citizenship and Trump's effort to remove Federal Reserve governor Lisa Cook. The court's conservative majority has recently approved the Trump administration's immigration policies, including blocking asylum seekers at the border and stripping temporary protections from hundreds of thousands of Haitians and Syrians who were legally in the country.
