At least 5 injured as 5.9 magnitude earthquake shakes northeast Japan; no danger of tsunami

The Hindu (International) reports that a magnitude five point nine earthquake shook areas northeast of Tokyo, leaving at least five people injured. The Fire and Disaster Management Agency said the injuries occurred in Ibaraki, Chiba and Saitama prefectures, and officials noted there is no danger of a tsunami. Japan sits on the Pacific Ring of Fire, so such seismic activity is not uncommon.
