Spantik Peak mission to retrieve body of Pakistani climber halted amid heavy snowfall

world

Heavy snowfall on Sunday has halted efforts to retrieve the body of Dr. Asma Mushtaq, a Pakistani climber who died from high-altitude sickness while descending Spantik Peak. Per Dawn, the thirty-four year old doctor was a UK-based specialist in obstetrics and gynaecology. While the Alpine Club of Pakistan has denied claims that the recovery was intentionally delayed, local officials say the tour operator violated mountaineering rules by failing to arrange a rescue team or insurance. An investigation into the expedition company's conduct will begin once the recovery is complete.
